What Calibers Can You Use in a Multi Caliber Lower

  1. Somehow I became nether the impression that AR lowers could handle multiple different uppers. Is that true? If so, that would allow for great flexibility.

    Looking forward to your input.:)

  2. Two pins and it's off, push them back in and the next upper is on.
  3. Every bit long every bit you stay inside the correct receiver dimensions (AR15 vs AR10), yes
  4. So an AR15 lower won't accept a .308 upper, an AR10 lower won't have a .556 upper??

If that's the case, what range of quotient uppers are useable with each lower?

It'south more according to the length of the round than anything else. Annihilation shorter than a v.56mm round can be fabricated to work in an AR-15 lower, but some rounds may have reliability issues (such equally 7.62x39 because of its wedge shape). Whatever circular in the .308 course (like .243, .260, 7mm 08) could conceivably be mated upwardly to an AR-x lower.

Filly did (does) make an AR-x variant that used an adapter to allow a standard 5.56 upper and magazine to be used. Not certain how that's been working out.

  6. You're referring to the Colt LE901 rifle, and supposedly it works very well. It uses an adapter in the lower to allow information technology to have 5.56mm mags and mate to an AR-fifteen upper. You also have to bandy the buffer & buffer spring.
  7. Their are extensive lists online that specify the dozens of cartridges that are offered for each size lower.

The reality is that in that location are actually only a few cartridges that are readily available for the public to purchase straight off the ammo shelves at a retail store. Most of the rest are specialty rounds or handloaded.

While you lot may have one lower, you could have v.56, 6.8SPC, 6.v Grendel, and .300BO for uppers you'd similar to apply on information technology.

Then the next complication rises - unlike cartridges have different purposes. They are specifically designed to be different in what they practise, non universally interchangeable. One round may be meant for long altitude accuracy, another for increased power in gainsay, the third for subsonic utilize in short barreled suppressed uppers.

That kind of different use so goes to the lowers and the different stocks, grips, and controls someone might prefer for those more than specialized applications. If the market shows united states of america anything, the majority of shooters don't prefer a one size fits all stock.

The long altitude shooters tend to prefer a "stock-still" length stock that accomodates decumbent position shooting, the "combat" or competition shooter a light weight adjustable carbine, and the suppressed SBR shooter a brusk fixed entry team stock for information technology's battering ram abilities.

So, tin can you pin "any" upper to a lower, sure. Only almost don't, it's an net fantasy. Uppers abound lowers and the gun rack gets some other finished gun. Search the internet for multi caliber owners posting gun rack photos and racks with simply "uppers" are few and far between. We talk about it but nosotros don't do it.

  8. And don't forget 9mm and .22LR conversion uppers likewise as .458 SOCOM, .500 Beowulf, etc.

.204 Ruger seems a Really popular swap at present, as well.

  13. Holy smokes. And I thought no viable calibers would fit in the 556 range. Then it becomes what I desire to reload, etc for a viable ii legged varmit for the shtf scenario.
What I was shooting for was the ability to change from a .223//556 to a .308 with only an upper change. Made logical sense to me. Only what practice I know. I'k simply a mini lover and might build an AR.
  14. The only viable mode to go 223/308 is with the 300 OSSM. A big hammer it is if you desire existent power.

  17. Kammacosbey: If a .308 / 5.56 convertible is what you lot're after, take a serious wait at the Colt LE901-16S. In the last ii days information technology has become my absolute must take can't live without shot to the top of my list gun. Only google the name and you'll encounter enough of reviews and youtube videos.
